IP Address Lookup
Look up geolocation, ASN, ISP, and timezone for any IP address — or instantly find your own.
What is an IP address lookup?
An IP address lookup queries publicly available databases to retrieve information about the owner and approximate location of an IP address. Every device connected to the internet is assigned an IP address by its network or ISP — this tool shows what information is publicly associated with that address.
The data comes from ipapi.co, which aggregates routing tables (BGP data), ISP registration records, and commercial geolocation databases. Country-level accuracy is typically above 95%; city-level accuracy varies by region and ISP.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 uses a 32-bit format written as four decimal octets (e.g. 203.0.113.1). The IPv4 space has approximately 4.3 billion addresses, most already allocated. IPv6 uses 128-bit hexadecimal notation (e.g. 2001:db8::1), providing a vastly larger address space. This tool currently supports IPv4.
Public IP vs private IP
Your public IP is the address your ISP assigns to your internet connection — the one visible to websites and services you connect to. Your private IP (e.g. 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) is used internally within your home or office network and is not routable on the public internet. This tool looks up public IPs only.
Use cases for email senders
Email marketers use IP lookup to verify sending IP details before warming up a new IP, to investigate bounce messages that contain unfamiliar IP addresses, and to confirm that their ESP is routing mail through the expected network. Security teams use it to investigate suspicious login attempts or inbound connections.
Frequently asked questions
Can I look up my own IP address?
Yes — click "What's my IP?" or leave the input blank and click Look Up. The tool detects and displays your current public IP along with location and ISP details.
Why does the location show the wrong city?
Geolocation databases estimate location from routing data, not GPS. ISPs often route traffic through regional hubs, so the city shown may reflect the nearest exchange point rather than your exact location.
Does this tool work for VPN IPs?
Yes — a VPN IP shows the location of the VPN server, not your true location. This is useful for verifying that a VPN connection is working and routing through the expected country.
What is an ISP?
ISP stands for Internet Service Provider — the company that provides your internet connection (e.g. Comcast, BT, Vodafone). For cloud servers, the ISP field will show the cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean, etc.).
